The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) previously granted some clients a temporary exemption from lodging their monthly Business Activity Statements (BAS) electronically as part of the transition period to compulsory online lodgement. These temporary exemptions have now ended and the ATO has advised they will no longer issue paper activity statements. Instead, your activity statement will become available via an electronic channel.
We know that paper statements are often used by taxpayers as a reminder of their BAS lodgement date. If you currently rely on receiving a paper BAS to remind you of the need to lodge, you won’t be able to rely on this any longer. BAS lodgment and payment dates are available on the ATO website. Alternatively, the ATO suggests using the ATO app which can notify you of key lodgment and payment dates.
